Richard B. Ross
Dick Ross has been marketing investments, insurance and banking products since the mid 1970s. His expertise is well established through his speeches and writings as well as work with some of the largest and most successful firms in the financial services industry.
He has conducted seminars on selling mutual funds for the International Association for Financial Planning; trained brokers and wholesalers; spoken in such varied forums as the Investment Company Institute, The Forum for Investor Advice, Bank Marketing Association, the American Marketing Association, the San Francisco Institute on Financial Services, the IBC Banks & Mutual Funds conferences, the Bank Securities Association, the IBC/VARDS Variable Annuity Conference, the Investment Programs Association and LIMRA.
He has been widely quoted in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Registered Rep, American Banker and Institutional Investor, among many others. He is the author of articles on investors appearing in The Wall Street Journal, Bank Marketing Magazine, Bank Investment Marketing and Trust & Estates. At the peak of the money fund phenomenon in 1980 he authored Money Market Fever.
Before founding 50-Plus Communications Consulting with Michael P. Sullivan, he headed his own firm, Dick Ross Investment Marketing and, before that, Investment Marketing Corporation. Prior to that he was Corporate Director of Financial Services for Equifax/Elrick & Lavidge and managed the most extensive study ever undertaken of individual investors. The study was sponsored by 40 organizations, including the NYSE.
Before joining Equifax/Elrick & Lavidge, he was Executive Director of the Center for the Study of Investor Behavior and before that, EVP at Market Facts, Inc. At Market Facts he directed a $1.5 million two-year examination of pension coverage in the United States for the Presidents Commission on Pension Policy; that study ultimately led to the creation of universal IRAs.
Mr. Ross holds an M.A. in social psychology from the University of Michigan, where he was a research associate at the Survey Research Center of the Institute for Social Research. His undergraduate work was done at the University of Wisconsin.
